First look at The Odyssey, status on Robert Eggers' next projects, Captain America 4, and more

Hello readers! It’s been a minute. Tons of new infographics and breakdowns that you will only find here in the Culture Crave newsletter. Thanks for the patience — we’re back at it 🤝

First look at Matt Damon in The Odyssey

Matt Damon is now confirmed to play Odysseus in Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey. It will be their third collab together after Interstellar and Oppenheimer. Production is expected to begin in the next few weeks 🎬

Reported budgets for Christopher Nolan’s films

What’s next for director Robert Eggers

Details on the director’s upcoming projects have trickled out over the years, with his next film slated to release being Werwulf. His advice to aspiring filmmakers is to always have several projects in the works because you never truly know what will move forward. I expect with Nosferatu grossing $176M against a less than $50M budget, he will be getting much more flexibility 🎞️

Captain America 4 falters critically

Captain America 4 is the lowest-rated film in the Cap franchise on Rotten Tomatoes and one of the lowest-rated projects in MCU history. It also received a B- on CinemaScore — the lowest ever for an MCU film. Despite this, the film had a strong opening, earning $192M worldwide, but will need around $425M to break even, according to Deadline

The MCU has never had a Rotten score until after Avengers: Endgame

54 movies still set to release in 2025

Impossible to list them all in one graphic, but here are some notable ones 🍿

July showdown at the box office 💰

This isn't a perfect comparison since the Superman trailer debuted much earlier, but here’s how their YouTube views currently stack up 📺

  1. Superman — 55M

  2. Jurassic World 4 — 34M

  3. Fantastic Four — 28M

Including all online views, WB and Disney have confirmed that Superman and Fantastic Four rank among the most-viewed trailers ever within their first 24 hours. It’s unclear where Jurassic World 4 stands, but with its YouTube numbers outpacing Fantastic Four, it’s a safe bet Universal’s additional marketing at the Super Bowl is paying off. July could be shaping up for three major box office hits

Nintendo Switch becomes third to reach 150M console sales

GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 continue to rise on highest-selling games list 📈

GTA 6 is going to be massive, and may not even get close to Minecraft 😳

Take-Two expects a lucrative fiscal 2025

Notable non-sports releases. GTA 6 is expected to generate $1B in revenue on launch day 🎮
