Avengers: Doomsday's cast, Pedro Pascal's booked schedule, Studio Ghibli AI slop, and more

Happy weekend readers! Here’s a new edition of the Culture Crave newsletter 🍿

Marvel announces 27 actors for Avengers: Doomsday

Kevin Feige has confirmed not every actor has been announced yet.
We’ve included Benedict Cumberbatch—who confirmed himself that Doctor Strange will appear—along with three other actors reported by major trade outlets in recent months. However, it’s looking increasingly likely that Tom Holland, currently filming The Odyssey, will be skipping Doomsday in favor of Spider-Man 4.
A rumor floated around this week that the events of these two films may happen simultaneously, which would likely set up an appearance for Spider-Man in Secret Wars.
24 actors in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

We’re still not confident this is the final cast 😂
Russo Brothers’ dismal directorial run

Even historically, they’ve never directed a critically acclaimed film outside of Marvel 😳
Studio Ghibli AI slop takes over the internet

Not slop. Image taken from Studio Ghibli’s masterpiece Princess Mononoke
Studio Ghibli has denied commenting on the AI ‘art’. In a separate statement, they confirming they’ve sent no cease and desist letters to anyone posting them. Some clown lied about receiving one, which prompted their reply.
Amid Princess Mononoke’s IMAX re-release success, their North American distributor GKIDS seemingly took a swipe at OpenAI and the slop posts:
“In a time when technology tries to replicate humanity, we are thrilled that audiences value a theatrical experience that respects and celebrates Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s masterpiece in all its cinematic hand-drawn glory.”
Pixar’s upcoming film slate

All of these are now officially confirmed
Pixar recently mentioned how they will be doing a mix of sequels and originals going forward, with the revenue from sequels helping fund new ideas.
"It's a combo because, of course, we're making these for the audience, not for ourselves.” — Pixar boss Pete Doctor
Highest-grossing films ever (unadjusted & adjusted for inflation)

China’s Ne Zha 2 continues to climb. By the time you read this, it will probably be over $2.1B💰

Only three months in and there are already a few GOTY contenders 🎮

Pedro Pascal is booked and busy

Shout out to this man’s agent 🎬
35 actors in Star Wars and the MCU

With Margarita Levieva starring in Daredevil: Born Again as Matt Murdock’s new girlfriend, we thought it would be fun to put this together a graphic featuring a bunch of actors in both franchises. It took a while to map all these out, so please enjoy 🙏
